Eagle Festival
at Stella, MO

January 28, 2012
A great day for Bald Eagles, Stella, and Chert Glades Missouri Master Naturalists! Any who were unable to join us should be sure to take a drive to the Stella area before these magnificent birds return north and pair up for the nesting season.

Visitors also spotted many Red-tailed Hawks in addition to adult and juvenile Bald Eagles, a probable Red-Shouldered Hawk's nest along the creek as well as plenty of fish in the creek! Who knows what other connections to nature were made! The grip-meter irrefutably demonstrated that no one in our group comes close to an Eagle's grip which, was reported authoritatively by the MDC representative to be" between 400 and 1000 lbs with an average of 823"! Making it more real was the information that the Eagle's grip could burst a baseball!

For those of you without access to The Joplin Globe, they provided great coverage both Saturday and Sunday, with KODE covering the event on TV!
